Library and Learning Commons

Hawaiʻi Pacific University Library and Learning Commons support student learning and the HPU community through access to resources, services, technology, and learning spaces. They serve as places for study, collaboration, research, and instruction that reflect the University's mission and shared values.

HPU maintains one Library, located at Waterfront Plaza, and one Learning Commons, located at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Together, these facilities provide access to collections, research assistance, academic support services, technology, and collaborative learning environments.

The Library and Learning Commons are committed to providing instructional services and learning support opportunities that empower students to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively and ethically.

Collections: HPU Library's collections contain databases, online resources, print books, periodicals, and audiovisual materials. Books are classified according to the Library of Congress Classification System and housed in the Library. Electronic books are available through the HPU Discovery platform for viewing and borrowing. Emphasis is given to acquiring academically-oriented titles in electronic format on subject matters relevant to the courses offered by the university. Online resources, including our capstone repository, full-text periodical, and subscribed databases, are available via the Libraries' website, https://www.hpu.edu/library-and-learning-commons/, and through the Library link in Blackboard.

Reference and Instruction Service: Reference and Research services are available at the Library and Learning Commons, providing professional research assistance to students and faculty. While off-campus, reference librarians are available via a 24/7 online chat service for research assistance. The "Chat with a Librarian" link is located in Blackboard and on the Libraries' website. The Library and Learning Commons offer research consultations to individuals, new student group orientations, and in-class faculty-requested information literacy instruction sessions. Librarians may be reached at library@hpu.edu.

Access Services: General Library services are available at the Library and Learning Commons and include item checkouts and returns, course reserves, equipment lending, and interlibrary loan services, as available. Students may check out books from the general collection for up to 56 days, with one renewal of up to 28 additional days, subject to Library policies.

Library Hours: During the major academic terms, the HPU Library and Learning Commons are generally open seven days a week, including evening hours. Extended evening hours may be offered at the Library and Learning Commons during final examination periods. Hours may be reduced during summer sessions, winter breaks, and other academic recesses. All locations are closed on university-observed holidays. Current hours are posted online and on-site.
