Academic Success: (Tutoring, Testing, Retention, and Accessibility Services)
The Center for Academic Success (CAS) advances HPU’s mission, vision, and values by providing high quality, evidence-based, learner-centered services that proactively and intentionally support students’ academic success. CAS focuses on the quality and effectiveness of all services, and continuously improves in order to consistently meet the needs of HPU’s diverse and inclusive learning communities. CAS includes academic success, tutoring, accessibility, and testing services. In order to conveniently connect students with the right people and resources, students may schedule appointments and communicate with CAS staff using the Navigate app or at hpu.navigate.eab.com.
CAS offers wraparound support to students of all levels and majors. Academic success services include peer mentoring, academic coaching, success coaching, STRIVE coaching, academic probation counseling, student retention counseling, first year seminar credit recovery, and academic skills workshops. Academic success specialists conduct outreach campaigns to students throughout the semester. Students may schedule appointments and communicate with staff using Navigate.
Tutoring is offered at Waterfront Plaza, Aloha Tower Marketplace, or via Google Meet. Peer tutors are professor-recommended, high-achieving students who are trained in best practices by experienced Center for Academic Success staff. Peer tutors leverage their prior experiences in the same courses at HPU to provide personalized, tailored academic support. Tutoring appointments may be scheduled through Navigate360. Additionally, Brainfuse provides professional online tutoring services paid for by HPU and free to registered HPU students. Brainfuse is available 24/7. Students can drop in for live sessions, submit questions asynchronous, or access tutoring resource databases. For additional information regarding tutoring, please visit hpu.edu/cas/tutoring.
As part of HPU’s continuing commitment to upholding the letter and spirit of the laws that ensure equal treatment of people with disabilities, the university established Accessibility Services, formerly the Office of Disability Resources. The office implements and coordinates reasonable accommodations and disability-related services that afford equal access to university programs and activities through an interactive, collaborative, student-led process. Accessibility Services is available to serve all students with disabilities, including those with cognitive, learning, psychological, sensory, mobility, and other physical impairments, as well as students with temporary injuries. General inquiry, intake, and renewal or revision meetings may be scheduled through Navigate. Additional information is available at hpu.edu/cas/accessibility.
Testing Services also offers students opportunities to earn college credit through examination programs such as the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST). These programs allow students to demonstrate proficiency in subject areas and receive credit for knowledge gained through prior learning experiences. In addition, the Center provides proctoring services for both academic exams and professional licensure or certification tests, supporting students and community members in meeting their educational and career advancement goals.
